Dartmoor Woods
We visited these woods last year when out with the local bird watching group and I was keen to come back. I do so love the different textures and shapes you get here in these woods.
We started off at Vennford Reservoir and wandered very slowly around the nearby woods and moorland. We only stayed for the morning part where the main excitement happened in the first half hour when we watched a male and female Crossbill feeding on pine cones and then came upon two young thrushes on the ground that could barely move, they looked very cute, lets hope they survive, see extra.
Other birds seen included a Redstart, Spotted Flycatcher, Siskins, Woodpecker, Grey Heron and Buzzards but the Willow Warbler was only heard.
Then it was a quick drive back and down to the allotment.
