Common Lizard

This poor lizard had a very nasty experience this afternoon. Every Monday I put the neighbours' bins away, which means four trips up the road and back again. I was on the third set of bins when I felt something under my foot. Slug was what came to mind but something made me turn around to check and I saw this poor little female lizard, no more than four inches long. I carefully picked her up and placed her on the grass verge and when I next checked, she'd gone. I do hope she survives.
