Fun day out.
At the suggestion of our sister in law we met up today in Wensleydale. It was a wet morning but from Buckden onwards it became increasingly sunny and turned into a lovely warm afternoon.
The blip is the entrance to the amazing Forbidden Corner near Middleham.
This crazy place was created by racehorse owning Mr C E Armstrong as a private folly. It is a corner of his estate consisting of mazes above ground and labyrinthine tunnels, chambers and spooky passages with lots of surprises below ground. There are riddles which are meant to help you through it all. Some places feature water that is designed to catch you out. I was the first to get wet heading to read one of them! Other areas have curtains of water that you have to get through with just a few seconds respite from the flow.
All great fun.
You enter through this mouth which has huge tonsils inside and makes very loud belching noises! A young boy following us was definitely not keen to go in.
You exit through the 'backside' of the creature, under its tail - see extra. Hard to explain it all, you'll just have to go.
The views from the property are lovely too and we finished up with a pleasant lunch in the Saddle Room which is alongside the park.
Thank you Ron and Ian it was a lovely idea and a great way to spend mid summer's day as well as a break from the marking!
