House on the hill!

Today being the shortest day of the year was cool, overcast and windy. My blip for today is looking over part of the commercial area of our town. But the house in the tip centre of the picture is of interest. In the early 1800's when the settlement of Australia was focused around Sydney, the Governor of the day had a vested interest in expanding the colony. The original settlers who built this home were simply required to submit a map to the Surveyor General and a request for a lease. To complete the map, only required a compass and sextant bearing, and a hand drawing of the surrounding mountains. Descendants of the original landholders still live in our community today. The homestead in the picture was for sale earlier this year for $1.6m.
