Bridge Street.

Off in the distance is one of the original residences in our town, Skellatar House originally constructed in 1883. In the middle of the picture is a railway overpass. Below that is Muscle Creek. In the early days of Australia the Surveyor Generals staff camped directly below the rail line, they were surveying the interior of the country. Camped alongside the water they found fresh muscles in the waterway which was in those days was called a brook by the new English settlers. The surveyors completed their mapping of the area naming the area Muscle Brook", a hundred or so years later the town was named Muswellbrook. And the brook became known as Muscle Creek. Low level rebellion against the British Empire!
