Porthcawl again.
This photograph is of the very last piece of The Dyffryn Llynfi and Porthcawl Railway Company Railway in existence. The dock, built in 1825 by the company was at the end of a 17 mile long track which had horse drawn wagons hauling coal and iron right up to the end of the dock (which was shown in yesterdays blip) and loading onto vessels for shipping all over the world. Over the 17 mile long trip, the railway descended 490 feet from its starting point in Maesteg and it took the horses just over 6 hours to make the journey, the return journey however took 2 hours longer due to them stopping at South Cornelly to collect Lime for use at the ironworks.
