2016 Sunday -- Father's Day
In the USA today, we celebrate Father's Day and Hallmark Greeting Cards loves these days and while I am thankful for them making lots of fun greeting cards, I also know that it is a day that definitely can be disturbing to some individuals.
My stepdad, "Pops" had a tough day because he did not hear from his only son, my half-brother Kurt. Years ago Kurt married a girl that doesn't "family" well. So they never contact Kurt's father, my stepdad, Pops."
So when I phoned this evening about 6:30, "Pops" confessed to me that he'd had a fairly crummy dad. "Pops" is 91 years old. In his world, a person wouldn't even consider not contacting his dad on Father's day. Of course Kurt has repeated this behavior for years.
So I hope my evening phone call erased some of the bad day my "Pops" was having. For years Kurt and his wife have lived in the same small city, Taft, as his dad, but recently Kurt and his wife have moved to Bakersfield, which is about a 20 or 30 minute drive from "Pops" house.
So tomorrow I will phone the Taft florist to order one dozen white carnations and one sunflower in a bouquet with a card that explains he is my one and only "Pops"!
Mr. Fun and I have had a quiet, but lovely Father's day. Just after sunset we took the three pups for a short walk to the super market and I stepped onto our neighbors' deck to capture this photo looking northwest toward the Cayucos pier.
