The Sheppey Crossing
went to the Isle of Sheppey today via Sittingbourne...its probably not the usual type of place I would visit but wow what a super bridge. There is lots of industry here as well as history. For instance there are the old fortresses built in the sea that look like something from War of the Worlds (see extra)

then there is flying history whilst the Short Brothers were here testing flying machines that were being made at Battersea. In 1909, Moore-Brabazon made the first live cargo flight by fixed-wing aircraft, by tying a waste-paper basket to a wing strut of his Shorts-built Wright aircraft. Then, using it as a "cargo hold", he airlifted one small pig ! There is a commemorative statue depicting the brothers in some hard to find location (see extra) the chap at the front looks more like Ant of Ant & Dec fame than anyone else !!
Had a mooch around the island then headed back to the ranch for the final time via Faversham where we stopped - C shopped & I drank coffee. Back then via the chippy in Lenham. C got the chips & I looked around the church. After we had eaten Lesley popped in to say bye bye as she is working tomorrow and said no rushing necessary in the morning which is grand.
A fine warm day & the people of Britain have voted in favour of leaving the EU & David Cameron has said he will quit in October.
We are home tomorrow...
