A perfect send off
This quick iphone photo is one of the table arrangements at our friend Joan's funeral reception. The 'Church Ladies' and friends of Joan & Hal contributed sandwiches, salads and goodies as they always do for these sad occasions. Our friend and fellow Garden Club member, Lisa did all the flowers for Joan. Altar flowers and the casket spray along with this one pictured and other bouquets for the collation. Lisa did our wedding flowers and my niece's too. She is absolutely magical with blooms, knowing just what fits the person or group she's arranging for.
Joan's service was perfectly done, including favorite hymns(mine as well), a 1960's video of her folk era fav, Judy Collins, singing Turn, Turn, Turn(To Everything There Is a Season) and a moving love letter from her husband, of 46 years read by Hal's friend and former colleague. I doubt there was a dry eye in the little white New England church on this picture perfect June day. The following is from the program for her service, celebrating Joan's life of service to her fellow human beings...
Joan Thomas, 69, understood one of the greatest joys of life was to serve. She served throughout her life touching immigrants, flower lovers, the blind, the faithful, avid readers and friends and family with God's love. Joan truly lived out the scripture from Proverbs 31 which states, "A virtuous woman, she is far more precious than jewels. the heart of her husband trusts in her. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. She dresses herself with strength. She reaches out her hands to the needy. Strength and dignity are her clothing."
For the Record,
This day came in with sun and warm breezes, a perfect June day.
All hands sad, but uplifted by Joan's 'send off'
