Long Road Out of Eden
The day began as it ended yesterday, in a swirl of misty rain. The clouds hung low over the far side of Loch Lochy We wandered down to the lodge's private pebble beach for a couple of shots before we started our journey south. As we headed back up to the car we spotted a bench in the gardens with a rhododendron bush that reminded Gitama of a picture past and so we had to stop off and take a couple of shots with her sat on it.
First stop was to the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge. Stunning views are to be had from there of Ben Nevis, Anoch Mor and the Grey Corries. We then backtracked a little to one of our first stops of the road trip, Loch Laggan. There was a lovely little lodge off the roadside that Gitama had wanted to photograph but we had missed it the first time round. After stopping off in Fort William for lunch it was due (well more sort of windy) south.
The rain started coming down a little heavier as we travelled down Loch Linnhe and I thought our stop-off at Glen Coe might have been rained off but as we entered the village the rain subsided and has stopped completely by the time we reached the car park overlooking the glen and The Three Sisters. Perfect.
From there it was road all the way as we travelled south through the Trossachs National Park and Loch Lomond, swapping the grand sweeping landscapes of the Highlands for the populated lowland cityscapes on our way to Largs.
Mum and dad were waiting for our arrival and after (a lot) of chit chat we headed out to dinner down at the marina before heading back up the road for more of the same. This was as far south as we'd come this time round and it was but just a flying visit.
Gitama's take on the day can be found here.
