Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside
I've been trying to make Gitama understand that the weather has no relevance whatsoever on when you eat ice cream in Scotland. Tales of Knickerbocker Glories on Millport in September didn't impress but this couple were happy to prove my point on a cool grey day in Largs. We had stopped off at the big metal Viking, erected as part of the 750th centennial of the Battle of Largs last year. It was to be Flynn's special daily shot for today. I thought the ice-creamers were a better bet.
As I write this some weeks after the events something that became somewhat of a tradition on this holiday was Gitama leaving wee gifts behind. In Orkney she left her body warmer. In Auchterarder she left her camera remote. In Ireland she left her hat. We were just turning back towards the car when I heard my name being shrieked across the street. It was mum... running across the road with a bag in either hand. One had G's special tea and the other, a bag of crisps. Not exactly essentials but...
As we parted G turned round and said "I wish she'd brought the chocolate digestives!" Hahaha! G has become a bit partial to these over the course of the holiday. Supplies were replenished soon after.
Before that though it was time to head north once more and the last destination of our wee road trip. Up to Auchterarder to visit Diane, David and Alan. We arrived mid afternoon and soon we were all chatting away about the past few weeks with tea and cake. The renovations were also heavy topics for discussion given the big holes sunk at the back and side of the house. David and I had a shifty over the architects drawings. Took me back to my old surveying days looking over the plans and elevations. spotting the architects standard "design by specialist subcontractor" cop out on several. ;-)
G and I were treated to dinner at D's favourite wee bistro in town and lovely it was too. Then it was back to the house for more chat into the wee small hours. Typical, fabulous Auchterarder hospitality.
Thanks so much guys! :-)
G's take on the day (the next few actually) can be found here.
