Retirement Reception
The one raising her glass is Dr. Julia Hodges, Mississippi State's interim provost and executive vice president. She is honoring Dr. Linda Morse, the director of the Center for Teaching and Learning and a professor of educational psychology, on the eve of Linda's retirement. It was a classy and dignified affair, and thanks to a fair amount of humor from the speakers, Linda did not fall apart, despite her fears.
Dr. Hodges will relinquish her post as an interim provost to the newly hired "permanent" provost on July 1; the new provost is also a woman.
I took other photos, but this one struck me as most significant: I live in times when women can do things. Women can lead university units, and universities while we're at it. Though not all the "gender numbers" are equal yet, we are certainly making way.
