Up in the mountains

We were high in the mountains in Northern Armenia today, exploring rough grassy slopes, woodland clearings and dry stream beds. The variety of plants here is astounding and there are butterflies to match. This one, Sovinsky's Green Hairstreak, was plentiful on low bushes beside the stream bed, which will be a great torrent for much of the winter. Birds were quite special today, as well, with Golden Eagles, Lammergeier and Goshawk. Off to the highest mountain, Aragats! tomorrow - a change from high temperatures.
