Like only yesterday, we tore down to the bottom of the school yard to witness "DP1", the Deltic prototype belt past.

In York, it would be very unusual if you were a lad (and many lasses come to that) and grew up uninterested in trains.

The Deltic class of loco (22 in total, all "namers"), with it's Rolls-Royce Napier engine and wonderfully iconic sound, made many a heart beat faster.

To this day, I still prefer diesel to steam. So sue me.
