182/366 Nearly missed them !
182/366 Nearly missed them !! The fields of poppies have nearly gone over but I managed to find these. A day early but just after 7am on 1st July 1916 the Battle of the Somme began, within hours 19,240 British and Commonwealth soldiers had gone to meet there maker out of a total of 54,470 British casualties that day making it the bloodiest day in British military history. The battle lasted 141 days and there were nearly 1,000,000 casualties on both sides and the battle lines only moved about 20 miles.. The Poppy is a symbol of all there sacrifices “We shall remember them”.
