Looks Good To Me

Tom's Man Cave

There were several routes I could have taken yesterday evening on our way home. Not entirely by chance, we happened to pass by Elizabeth Station -- so we stopped to see what beers were on tap.

It was a very good decision. We were delighted to find a beer from our favorite Portland brewery, Cascade Brewing. It was a Gose -- a very old German sour wheat beer I'd never heard of. Because the ingredients include coriander and salt, it does not comply with the Reinheitsgebot -- the German Beer Purity Law. It was allowed an exemption because it was considered a regional specialty.

Cynthia and I liked the beer so much that we decided to return to the Station today to have breakfast, and to bring home a growler (4 US pint jug) of the Gose. (See C's blip for more about the Station, and breakfast).

On the way home we shopped for groceries at the CFC (Community Food Co-op), where I ran into my friend Tom. He said he was going to the annual membership party at Boulevard Park in the afternoon and invited me to meet him there to see his "Mobile Man Cave". It's a large RV that used to have a shower, toilet, furnace, stove, and refrigerator, all of which he removed, thereby reducing the vehicle weight by 1000 pounds.

There was no beer garden at the park, but Tom had a few bottles in his cooler.

P.S. The recipe for Gose was almost lost at one point. Be sure to click on the link above for the full story.
