MV Isle of Arran at Campbeltown

13.6C with heavy showers and sunny spells. Moderate West or WSW breeze.

It was dry and bright when Maeve the Deerhound and I were out for our first walk of the day so, since it was Friday, off to the ferry terminal we went. On the way we went right out to the end of the old quay to see if there was a picture to be had from there. There was a cargo ship (Emma Janneke) berthed on the other side of the new quay from the ferry, waiting to be loaded with wind turbine sections.

We walked round to the park which starts just past the ferry terminal, picked a spot along the shore path, and waited for the ferry to set off. I was hoping to get a shot of the ferry as it crossed the loch towards Davaar island but, as I suspected, the light doesn't favour that view early in the day. Once the ferry had made its way though the channel past the island we went home.

Late morning there was a very heavy shower so I waited until it passed before I went along the road to the local fish shop. There were Salmon fishcakes today, Salmon Scotch eggs, and Salmon rolls (we aren't having the rolls but thats something to try another time). From the local smokery.

After lunch Maeve the Deerhound and I went for our walk hoping we had picked a dry spell. Jean Michel Jarre (Oxygene) then Jethro Tull (Broadsword and the Beast) on the iPod Mini. We went across the road and along to the esplanade then walked round past the marina and the two quays of the harbour. Wind turbine sections (shorter then the ones I have seen before) were waiting their turn to be loaded onto the cargo ship. The cranes were alongside.

We went along by the ferry terminal then followed the shore side of the park. For somewhere different to go I decided to have a wander round the cemetery which is a lovely green space with lots of trees and rhododendrons set at the opening to a small glen. We had a wander round and climbed the zig zag path up beyond the memorial for the Commonwealth war graves which are situated on a terrace on the hillside. The view from the highest point of the path back over the loch and out to Davaar island was worth the climb. I'm not sure Maeve would agree. She got slower as we neared the top, so I had a few minutes on the top path for her to have a rest.

We came back the same way but went along the street side of the park and came back home through town.

Whilst writing this text I have been listening to Focus (Moving Waves) and then a muted jazz playlist.

DMC-LX7 f/2.8 1/200 sec. ISO-80 15mm (35mm focal length 75mm)

Extras: 1. From the old quay.
2. The view from the top path in the cemetery over Campbeltown loch to Davaar island and Arran.  The Doirlinn (causeway) to the island is very clear against the sea at this point in the tide. On the left of shot you can make out the old shipyard, and further out along the North shore is MacCringan's point.
