Beautiful etched window in St Nicholas, Moreton
Today we stopped at the hamlet of Moreton and went into the little church there. This church was rebuilt in Victorian times, as the fussy inside reveals, however, the windows are relatively new, having been installed after the church suffered war damage in October 1940. The 13 windows are all etched glass, done by the artist Lawrence Whistler and give the church a light, and almost ethereal quality. The second claim to fame of this church is the fact that the funeral of TE Lawrence (aka Lawrence of Arabia) was held here and he is buried in the church yard opposite. The main photo shows one window in detail, the extra photo shows the apse and windows in a semicircle behind.
