Poppies Galore
This magnificent field of poppies was a feature of our last day of our birding tour in Norfolk, England. It was early in a long morning in the field, mostly spent at Lakenheath Fen, an RSPB refuge just south of Norfolk in Suffolk. There we saw the Common Kestrel in the extra image (a female, or possibly an immature, hovering characteristically). A very dramatic event was a brief and sudden flight by a bittern no more than thirty meters (100 feet) in front of us--he burst across a pool in the marsh and disappeared on the other side in a few seconds--no time for a photo.
