Privilege at Play

Jesse Williams is the right man at the right time. His skillful, well-crafted, and brilliantly performed speech last week is still making waves throughout the USA. Everyone is talking about it, everyone has an opinion, and it’s all over social media. If you know one thing about American cultural politics in 2016, know this speech.

Today Alice Walker published a poem in Afropunk, a poem about Williams and his spoken word performance, a poem about Blackness and Whiteness and about what holds us all together.

With Alice Walker’s words in our hearts, Sue and went out into the beautiful summer day, and oddly enough we ended up in Portland’s most upscale neighborhood, the Pearl District, where the privileged go to play.
