Is that green ...
A high of 16.9C today with a light breeze, and it does feel a bit cooler.
Still pleasant to be out in ... but only between the heavy showers !
No wildlife in the fields today as Maeve the Deerhound and I took a chance late morning and went out for our walk when I saw there was a bright spell following a shower. We did meet two people with a whole pack of dogs though. Not easy for us all to get past each other as the path is narrowing with the grasses and weeds growing fast in all this rain and plenty of light. The other dogs were all well behaved I'm glad to say as most of them were not on leads. Some puddles are appearing on the path after all the showers.
Two boats had just reached shore as we approached the Fishermen's huts along the beach. The first was a rowing boat coming in from one of the two regular fishing boats with today's catch. The catch, which was in four boxes today, gets loaded on to a wooden 'tray' at the back of a tractor and gets taken up to the huts and soon after is usual whisked away in the back of a pickup. The other, a small fishing boat, was brought to the waters edge and its catch carried up the beach by hand. The fishing boats are moored out in the water, and the little rowing boat is usually dragged up the beach and its rope secured to a heavy rope that is permanently tied to an iron post driven into the sand at the back of the beach.
Maeve and I walked up to the huts through our usual gap in the dunes and I noticed an addition to the pile of rusty corrugated iron recently removed from one of the roofs. A small sheet with really a really garish green paint layer clearly showing. Just the thing for a blip :-)
Maeve and I stopped to speculate on the likelihood of us getting home dry with the lady we often see working around at the huts. She had on heavy wellies and was putting on an oilskin jacket to go down to one of the boats. Our conclusion was that there was a shower coming soon. Sure enough within a few minutes as we walked along by the cottages there was, but we managed to get to a tree just by the road bridge over the railway and wait until the worst went off before taking a shorter route home. We didn't get too wet, but Maeve did get a quick towelling in the kitchen and gave herself a very thorough shake.
Earlier and later there has been pottering about with Internet family history research as I hopefully near the end of the challenge I set myself after our visit to Hoy in June.
