Tractors

21.8C bright with cloud bubbling up and heavy showers in the afternoon.

With showers forecast for the afternoon Maeve the Deerhound and I set off for our walk before lunch. As we walked up the road to the church we saw two tractors across in the potato field. One was just setting off across the field towards the road. Before we reached the church the tractor had come up the road, turned right and passed us by.

Just as we got to the church I felt some spots of rain. The shower arrived properly before we reached the field with the bridle path. We took shelter beside the hedge and some trees. As we waited for the shower to pass the tractor we had seen came back along the road.

The shower soon passed and we carried on into the field and started down the bridle path. On the far side of the field I saw two Roe deer in the crop. We stood still against the fence but they had spotted us. I got one distant shot as they moved slowly down the field, then picked up pace with a jump or two and disappeared through the broken fence into the trees. No picture to post entitled "Four Ears" my assistant remarked.

In the small field on the road side of the railway line we noticed a big plastic tank of water set up on some pallets. There will be sheep in the field soon I expect. The wooden structure that forms the approach to the pedestrian gate at the level crossing was lying broken on the ground. The posts looked rotten at the base.

We crossed over the level crossing and made our way down to the beach. The tide was out. There is a lot of seaweed heaped on the sand. I saw the owner of 'Shamara II' reversing his blue tractor down into the edge of the water. There were three big piles of creels in the water. The red tractor which belongs to the owner of 'Valhalla VI' was on the sand by the creel rack. 'Valhalla VI' was out at sea.

We walked through the working area in front of the Fishermen's huts. Just one man there, banging something with a hammer. We didn't see what but there is a small boat just where he was working.

As we walked past the cottages on East Row I heard the blue tractor start up again. We reached the car park in time to get a few shots of the tractor heading up the beach with a load of creels. My assistant has suggested that since we have seen so many tractors today that I should post this one. There are at least four tractors in shot, three blue and one red :-)
