Boursin
Du pain, du vin, du Boursin ... so the advertising campaign goes. I am sure the makers of Boursin were overjoyed with whoever came up with that slogan. For non-French speakers, its translates as 'bread, wine and Boursin, but one of those situations where everything is lost in translation!
This is an industrial cheese - a double cream cheese and probably one of the most popular in France. The cheese is now available in a number of different flavours, and I tried a new one: au Bleu & 3 noix (blue and 3 nuts). Boursin cheese was first developed in 1963 by François Boursin in Upper Normandy and up until 2007 it was produced exclusively in Croisy-sur-Eure.
Boursin comes in a wide variety of flavours, including black pepper, garlic, mixed herbs; and is even produced for cooking. I have not tried cooking with it, but can imagine it would work well for anything that required a rich, creamy sauce.
As you can see, I have fallen for the advertising campaign ... every time!
