Bridge Over the River Tagus

After leaving our guests at the airport, went for a walk on the boardwalk alongside the Tagus, as we often do, but this time, went upstream and under the Vasco de Gama bridge. The tide was out; loved the reflections in the mud, and all the birds (see them on the shoreline?), even some flamingos, which I've been trying to photograph for ages...

Chose this one because it captures something of the scale of this, the longest bridge in Europe, which we go over every time we go to Lisbon. Built to withstand a major earthquake and 250km per hour winds, it really is impressive, whatever angle you see it from.

And this isn't mono - the grey skies reflected our rather bereft feeling as we saw their plane fly over the bridge. There was lightning and thunder all night, but only drops of rain, and it soon brightened up...
