Trappain Law

First Sunday in June, and the weather stays sunny, but with an easterly breeze. The Spokes Ride is going out to Gifford. As we head down to Musselburgh, it gets colder as we near the sea. the temperature drop is quite significant, so I keep my windproof jacket on. Once through Musselburgh, we climb up to Tranent. As we ascend, so does the temperature, and I can ditch the jacket.

From Tranent, there is more climbing, but of a more gentle nature. We pass through Pencaitland to East Saltoun, which is the highest point of the ride in the morning. It is an easy ride from East Saltoun to Gifford along a sheltered rolling road.

We have lunch in the park and sit in glorious sunshine. Good job I have sun lotion. When I switch the GPS back on, the bike has been against a wall, see extra, and it registers a temperature of just over 40 deg C.

After lunch, we carry on east for a while, before we head south. this give us the view of Trappain Law as captured for my blip.

From here, its west to Haddington and then north on the A6137 road as far as the top of the climb. It is quite cold at the top of the hill, so it is a very short waiting for people before we drop down to Longniddry and the coastal road.

Cycling along the coastal road is nice and easy.We get blown through Port Seton and Prestonpans back to Musselburgh. We have an ice cream at Luca's. In the shade it is 13 deg C, with a significant North Sea wind chill factor. Its best to stay in the sun.

Ice cream eaten, its a nice ride back to Joppa, and then the ascent back in to Edinburgh. As we move away from the coast, the temperature again rises. At the end of the ride at St. Leonard's, its nice and warm.

We all head home.
