Sharing an incredible view

Today we caught the train to Milson's Point and met an old friend of S. We walked across the Harbour Bridge together and climbed one if the pylons to learn the history of the bridge and see the view which was amazing. We had a lovely Thai lunch and then, after much talking, we said goodbye and went to walk through a wonderful garden created by Wendy Whitely the wife of the late, great Australian artist, Brett Whitely. She began creating it from a wasteland owned by the railways between the bottom of her garden and the harbour about 25 years ago following the death of her husband and daughter. It is an amazing and very beautiful place with many interesting corners and hidden treasures. Then to make sure we were completely exhausted we caught the train into Circular Quay and walked around to the Opera House, then up through the city. One of those strange things happened.... going into the city again after such a long time the streets seem much narrower and everything seems much closer together..... I assume they haven't been altered just to confuse me so I guess it's me who has changed. The city also seems to have lost a lot of it's character and quaintness in an attempt to be glamorous and upmarket. But maybe some things are better remembered than revisited.
