Dippers and a Bee Chafer
We crossed the border over to Austria today for a wonderful if not long walk through a gorge. When we first set off we had trouble finding the road as we suddenly realised our satnav doesn't have Austria included in our northern Europe maps. We eventually worked it out although it was quite hard as we kept discovering extinguished roads by the army base just down the road. Not sure how we did it but we got there in the end.
The walk started off near the outskirts of the border town of Scharnitz and wend it way beside, above and through the gorge. We saw so many fritillaries more than any other day. We also started to notice tiger beetles and at the end of the walk a bee chafer that I'm including as an extra and hope it can be included in TinyTuesday this week as it's only 10mm long.
My main blip is off a dipper which was such an exciting bird to see in action as we don't get them at home. We watched them, two parents and a fledglijg, as we walked up the gorge and were so impressed by their antics despite the ferocity of the river. I'm going to include another extra of the fledgling looking like a monster compared to it's parent. Poor thing as soon as one adult had fed it and started going off for more food the chick was shouting for more!
We walked nearly 10 miles today and I'm bushed again, but it's been great and the storms and rain haven’t appeared as forecast. Let's hope they're wrong about the weather tomorow.
Thanks again for looking in and leaving stars and hearts even though I have comments turned off, I really do appreciate it! ☺
