Lichfield Festival
This week the Lichfield Festival is at its height. I love to go into the city on the bus (parking is not easy) and relax at some of the smaller events.
Today I went to a recital given by one of the top young British oboe players, John Roberts. He was accompanied by an excellent pianist and chose to play Couperin, Ravel, Lutoslawski, Bach and Schumann. I hadn't realised what an exhausting instrument the oboe must be to play. He introduced the last item along with the penultimate one and I realised, as he paused before the Schumann, that he was totally out of breath with the intricacy of the Bach ! Magnificent.
I took some photos trying to do justice to the Lichfield Garrick Theatre. It's an unusual building ( not to my taste) that defies photographic art. It's a strange shape and it's squashed in among some other modern buildings which do no favours.
So, you have poppies from the field by the bus stop.
