Maheno

Been another warm stunning day and sunshine all day.

Up early and set off on day two of our trip around Fraser Island.  First stop was watching planes land on the beach.  Unknown to us, they arrived to pick us up and we headed for a 20 minute tour over the east side of the isle, spotting various landmarks, humpback whale and even a great white shark.  Next stop was a dip in the sea at Champagne Pools, it was like a hot tub :)  Lunch at Cathedral beach and then o  to see the shipwreck Maheno and ending up with a dip at Eli Creek.  Another brilliant day.  Later meeting up with the couple from the trip and also my pal Nik has popped up too.

The Maheno is an old ship, built in Dumbarton, Scotland, in 1905 and a swish cruise liner for travelling between New Zealand, Melbourne and Sydney.  Used as a hospital ship in WW1 and then returned to her normal duty.  When time for replacing in the 80 years ago, the Japanese bought her but she ran aground here, during a storm and remains here today.  Well built and still strong considering.  Taken on 75 Mile Beach, Fraser Island.
