A Blott on the Landscape
Work on the demolition of the famous Glossop Chimney has started.
An Extra photo shows the full height and the 2 monster cranes involved in the work.
The don't seem to have made much progress this morning - I think its going to be a long job.
The history is one of pollution and neglect
The background is explained in this 1988 BBC Open Space programme Glossop's Fuming - listen to the 'Edge of Darkness" music at the start and you'll get an idea what it was like. I can remmber the horrible taste in the mouth.
A disgrace that it went on years and years and since it was shutdown it has just stood a true Blott on the Landscape.
Some real Vital Sparks in this one
