Today's the day ........................ to travel hopefully

It didn't auger well when we arrived at Oxenholme Station this morning to find that no trains from the north had managed to get through as yet.  It was some problem with the overhead wires somewhere north of Carlisle.

This seems to happen to us on a regular basis when we decide to go somewhere which involves a train journey.  A glimmer of hope emerged in the form of a good old diesel-engine train which had no need of overhead wires and had managed to by-pass the problem.  It was actually going to Manchester Airport but we reckoned if we could get to Preston, we might have more of a chance of getting to London and catching the Eurostar to France.  It proved to be a wise course of action because we did eventually make it to Euston - although it meant squashing into already overcrowded trains - with no seat reservations.

Rail travel from St Pancras International was an entirely different thing altogether.  We glided in and out of stations on time to the second.  Seats were very comfortable with loads of room for legs and luggage.  Pas de probleme - as they say in this part of the world ...............
