Les Vercors

Today's the day ....................... to be patriotic

This is a very appropriate place to be on Le quatorze juillet.

We're in the south-east of France, not far from Grenoble and this is the view from the village of St Blaise du Buis looking across to the Vercors Plateau.  This great slab of a mountain was an important hiding place for the French Resistance in the 2nd World War.  And somehow it seems entirely appropriate that the yellow field in the foreground is planted with yellow sunflowers - which I always associate with being in France.

It's a national holiday today throughout France - and there are lots of celebrations and events to mark Bastille Day.  We've been watching Le Tour de France cycling race this afternoon which seems quite a different thing when you're actually in France.

Tonight we are going to a firework display in the nearby town of Voiron..........................
