Zany Zebra
The Zany Zebras have arrived to adorn Southampton streets providing a colourful adventure trail around the city.
For ten weeks from Saturday, 150 of these artistically adorned replica zebras will provide summer street art through the city.
It’s the initiative of the same team at Marwell Zoo near Winchester, which was behind the similar stampede of Go! Rhinos through the city. Marwell’s Zany Zebras promises to be even bigger and better!
Three years ago they reckon the rhinos were enjoyed by over 250,000 visitors and residents, with the project igniting a community spirit, and showcasing the city while putting smiles on hundreds of thousands of faces.
this extraordinary free family event will see 150 stunning Grevy's zebra sculptures on the streets.
These large sculptures have been decorated by the zoo’s artists, creating fantastic public street art.
Organisers say schools, colleges and community groups will be joining in the fun, adopting, designing, and realising their very own smaller zebra sculptures, whilst receiving an Outreach visit and Educational pack, as part of the Marwell’s Zany Zebras Education Programme.
In addition to this, a trail of replica miniature Marwell’s Zany Zebras sculptures will be hidden within Marwell Zoo itself.
The organisers says that after the event, all of the large sculptures on the city streets will be sold at auction raising funds for Marwell’s conservation work with endangered Grevy’s zebras and other wildlife, and to support communities living in the arid rangelands on northern Kenya.
