Drum Castle, Aberdeenshire, Scotland
Day 9
A 13th century tower house, combined with a Jacobean mansion, and additions by Victorian Lairds. For centuries it was the seat of the Clan Irvine, and was handed over to the National Trust for Scotland in 1975.
In torrential rain and thunderstorms we toured the house, climbed to the top of the tower, and visited the small chapel in the grounds. We must return in better weather to enjoy the gardens.
We went on to meet with friends at Crathes Castle, six miles away. A walk in the garden, and another downpour led to tea and cakes in the coffee shop.
On to stay with my brother and his family, to help prepare for the big day tomorrow.
