Battered Admiral

Now that my buddleia is in flower, the garden is full of bees and butterflies flitting from stem to stem and drinking their fill of sweet nectar. I was surprised to find this red admiral posing for me, as I don't normally see them until August - perhaps the heat has encouraged him to venture out early. Judging by the state of his left wing, he has already survived one or two battles in the garden.
