Carve their name with pride.
We went to Parc Slip quite early this morning, and I thought I would definitely be able to get a dragonfly shot. We sat by the pond, for ages, and gave it up as a bad job. I got up and walked ahead, like I usually do, and I could see two figures in the distance. I thought I had better stop and wait for J. As we got closer, we could see this wooden sculpture. It is new to the reserve, and we thought the detail was so real. It has been carved from one piece of wood, and the expressions on their faces is absolutely amazing. As you probably know, my great grandfather was a miner, who was killed in an explosion,at Parc Slip in 1892, and this could almost be him. What a wonderful memorial to the 112 men and boys that died on that terrible day. See my extra photos .
