US holiday Day 4

From Death Valley to Los Angles.
Instead of going on the direct route we went via the Sherman Pass road , a winding twisting back road through the  Sequoia National Forest. We did not see the expected huge trees but there were some stunning views as far as the snow covered Mount Whitney and a variety of beautiful flowers. We also saw areas of devastation caused by fire. At the end of the pass was Lake Isabella that was on the news a few days later as it was the site of a huge fire that claimed several lives. On route we passed the Grumpy Bears Retreat, a rather special place that we could not give sufficient time for. Although there were very few houses around it was crowded with outdoor types, rucksacks everywhere. I think it is on the PCT, the Pacific Crest Trail, a fabulous footpath that goes from Mexico to Canada.
This morning we woke up in a little desert motel (see additional picture), tonight we sleep in a rather luxurious hotel in Los Angles. We are having a shed load of different experiences thrown at us.
