Madison Avenue ...

... from the 4th floor of the "Met Breuer"*--the new name of the old Whitney Museum of American Art at 75th Street. It has been taken over by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which has mounted a marvelous introductory exhibition, "Unfinished:Thoughts Left Visible", with nearly 200 works from the Renaissance to the present (most lent from other institutions), devoted to "a subject critical to artistic practice: the question of when a work of art is finished." Fascinating!  The other exhibition we visited just opened:  works by Diane Arbus (1923-1971) from the first seven years of her career as a photographer, 1956 to 1962--many of which had never been exhibited before--wonderful.

In the afternoon we drove home to Northampton, where we watched the second evening of the Republican convention (against our better instincts)>

*The building was designed by the renowned architect Marcel Breuer --hence the new designation by the Met.
