Testing
It was a nice bright start to the day, even if it was a tad early- 8:30am! Day two of the holidays, and already this feels too early...
I had to get up earlier as I had a doctors appointment. I went back to gymnastics two years ago, after having about 15 years off ;-) Whilst I am still flexible, can still do all my tricks, etc. I have felt my shoulders get progressively worse.
After repeatedly making appointments and then cancelling due to being too afraid to ask work to go, I finally went on Friday. He said he was thinking rotator cuff, but thought it might be shoulder impingement, and that the best thing to do would be a steroid injection that would give me some relief. I can't lift my arms up much before the pain starts. Not excrutiating but uncomfortable, and it's become quite hard to do little things too. I told him there's no way I was going to give up gym, so this was the solution!
They were running late, and whilst sitting there, I remembered I don't really like needles.....
I did ask him how much it would hurt, and he said it would. I made sure I didn't look, and it was quite painful, with his poking a large needle right into the joint space, but it was over quickly. He said the best time would be for the next three hours, as there was local anaesthetic in there, but then it would start to hurt for a few days. The hope is in a couple of weeks I'll get the full benefit, and if it's good, then we can do the other one.
I was a bit ginger with my arm, but I realised that for the first time in 18 months I could lift my arm up without pain. It was a revelation! Even turning my arm to reach my phone alarm ever morning has left me squeaking in pain. The worst is when it's abducted at 90 degrees and you're on your back- I used to always ask T to pick up my arm for me and turn it back over as it hurt less :-)
I took myself to B and Q- ah, the summer holidays! I went to get some paint samples as I want to paint my fence.
Ro wanted to help, and having decided on a colour, I made a return trip to buy two large tins. The weather looked a bit iffy when I got back, so we've decided to postpone it a few days as we're forecast rain.
I had planned to try a new gym tonight as mine is shut all this week as they're having new lights put in. A lot of us were going to train elsewhere this week. But my shoulder became more stiff and painful so it was just as well I didn't go. But I am going to try it. They also have a dance studio, and the timetable said they also do ballroom and latin, which I'd love to get back into. We'll see.
So far the holidays seem a bit aimless. I wish I'd decided to do a big trip. I have Spain to look forward to in a few weeks, so I am lucky in that way. I suppose with such a long time off I should make better use of it.
