The view from the bridge
Late in the afternoon I drove south to visit my friend Pat. H., who I've known since we were teenagers. He lives in a small hamlet a few miles inland from the coast in a 17th century thatched cottage which I always love to stay in.
Dusk was setting when I turned off the road from Crewkerne to Dorchester at Frampton, his local village. I parked just before crossing the bridge over the River Frome, in order to have a few minutes looking down the river, which is one of my favourite views. There were no people trout fishing, just a few ducks and coots feeding in the swirling reeds. The water level is low at present so the river is sluggish.
