Uttershill Castle (remains of)

A short (50mile) Sunday morning bike ride. It was quite breezy, and heavy rain was forecast. So it was through Penicuik, down to West Linton and Lyne Station before heading home over the Meldons and Mount Lothian back to Penicuik. On the way down to Penicuik I stop to take a photo of what's left of Uttershill Castle. It doesn't tak long to get home from here as I am blown home. Just as I arrive at the back door, the rain starts. Good timing there.

In the afternoon my partner and I went in to town. The rain doesn't really last long, and we stay quite dry walking along Princes St, and then to the new Costa in Geoge St. It all looks rather new, modern and stylish inside. No big statements about their coffee on the walls here. The dome is quite spectacular, Extra below. Unfortunately the service was a bit slow, but it could be because the staff seemed very new.

On George St. itself, outside Hamilton & Inches Jewellers is a 14ft sculpture of a horse head, also an extra. The Rook is by Kelpies sculpture Andy Scott. This is to celebrate Hamilton & Inches 150th anniversary. Smaller editions of The Rook are available from the jeweller for £365. The price for the whole chess set is price on application as it has to be commisioned.
