Progressive alliances

Took the train to Birmingham today for meetings, language tests and Caribbean food. Taking the train is a glorious luxury, all the book reading and people watching you like, whilst still moving through countryside and reaching your destination. Or maybe I just hate driving.

Wondered around the Birmingham Museum for a bit and heard some Birmingham voice recordings from the war which sounded like my nan and made me miss her a bit.

I do dislike the new tin foil clad Birmingham New Street Station but it is good for taking selfies.

This evening I attended a talk in Shrewsbury with the leader of the Green Party, Natalie Bennett, and a couple of other representatives talking about post referendum, local councils and saving the NHS. Fascinating to listen to, not least to wonder about how they can be so switched on about so many current political and social issues. I wonder how they have time enough in each day to be so well read. As usual with these things, I came away with a sense of really wanting to do more but wondering how and when.

I walked home through town at 10pm, which is something I rarely do, especially on a Friday night. I love how different town feels at this time of night. I also loved walking past a local independent shop busy re-doing their window display for the morning and the bakers busy kneading their bread.
