Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Steep hill workout. Twice.

It was such a sunny morning I was forced out of bed and ate my muesli fully dressed.

JR's gym workout was replaced with an Archie-shower-and-blow-dry workout. We spent a good while browsing holiday brochures, and have more or less definitely decided on the Big Trip in 2017, the Year of the New Knees. Nothing booked, that's a pretty big step, but we will. Soon.

Elizabeth came to collect Archie for his big walkies, bearing a gift of home made brownies. Well, I haven't quite got the inclination for them yet, but I will soon - JR declared them to be delicious.

We took advantage of the dog-less afternoon to take a wander down town. I haven't been for a while. We wanted to check out the new 'Arches' - we've been a few times when they had pop-up shops in the Festival, but now they're all poshed up and rather super.

We found, and could not resist, a 'donutterie' - a wee shop that specialised in donuts, bagels, pastries and good coffee. Most unusually, I elected to share a custard and honey donut. They make their own donuts, and another one was pistachio and pomegranate. JR had a coffee, which she declared was the best she'd had for a while. I had a water.

I walked all the way down Market Street. For those who don't know Edinburgh - it's steep! And I walked all the way back up again - even steeper that way! I had to go and lie down when we got back, but JR popped down to see Rufus and his mum.

Archie has just come home and he's tired out as well, having had fun with lots of other dogs in Inverleith Park, home by bus, then treats at Elizabeth's. No wonder he greets her like a crazed maniac. Today he had lipstick all over his (newly washed) beard after he had smothered her. She doesn't seem to mind.

This shot was supposed to be a panorama stitch up to include the fabulous billowy white clouds behind the castle, but my silly stitch app refuses to 'see' all my photos.
