Day 7 - a free day
Lovely clear crisp day, perfect for a trip over the mountains.
We got the bus toward Courmayer and the cable car up to Point Hellbronner (3,461m). The car rotated as we went up so we could get a complete view around and at the top we were able to get out into a modern visitor centre and go up on the roof. I have a 360 panorama from there but can't upload it as an extra.
After coffee and cake we queued for the next stage of the jpourney, a cable car across the glaciers below Mont Blanc to Aiguille de Midi. It is an amazing piece of engineering as there is only one support in about 5km and gives fantastic views. Below there were numerous groups of walkers, many off to climb peaks, and good views into the glacier, an dall around mountains.
Once over we spent some time in the centre on the top (over 3,800m) where we noticed the reduced oxygen when climbing the stairs and there are various exhibits. It was very cold outside but returning in the cable car was very warm with the sun shining in.
There was a bit of cloud forming on the way back, which just added to the views.
On the way back down we got out at the mid station where there's an alpine garden, which was useful in identifying some of the flowers we'd seen.
A fantastic day out and I have loads of photos, I've added just a couple as extras.
