Soldiers of Killicrankie
Fun day today when we visited the re-enactment of the Battle of Killiecrankie, near Pitlochry. The original battle was a civil war, fought on 27 July 1689 between the Jacobites (Highland Scots supporting King James 11 and V11 and including a French contingent) and troops (including Scots) supporting the English King William of Orange. The Jacobites won this battle in spite of losing their leader the Earl of Dundee (Bonnie Dundee), but lost in the end.
Superb cavalry display by Riders of the Storm and lots of action from the infantry, including cannon and musket fire! A few more photos in extras.
There were a few spots of rain and a chilly wind, but the day stayed mostly dry which made things a lot easier for the participants and the spectators:-)
