There has always been a cluster of restaurants on this block.  A few years ago the city council decided to block off the traffic and build a roof and let the restaurants sprawl onto the cobbled former roadway.  They branded it as EAT STREAT (get it)  I'm sure this isn't original)  It has been very successful and it's a common sight to see visitors reading the menus and deciding which eatery tempts their taste buds.
