Buried History
Dear Diary,
Those of us who love genealogy know that most of it is hard work. Digging into the past, uncovering past lives is a fascinating and time consuming effort. Sometimes though, history just floats to the surface unbidden. These are four arrow heads that my grandfather discovered while plowing his fields nearly a century ago. You can still find them here abouts if you are lucky.
The one second from the left is still very sharp. The others have lost their points. I still wonder at the marks made by the person fashioning them probably centuries ago. They are very different, perhaps made by different tribes or at different times. To hold one in your hand is to hold history and forge a connection with these distant people.
I love all aspects of history. I always have. Geography too although I don't think that is taught as a separate subject now, mores the pity. Literature and writing were also favorite subjects. Most of all, I was a curious soul and I can thank my teachers for that. I can thank my grandfather too. He always took the time to explain things to a little girl, like how these arrow heads were made. He would make my imagination swirl. For that I am forever in his debt.
