Cottage With A View
We were up and ready in reasonably good time to get an early start on our long drive south. We left my mum and dad to lock up the house, as they were setting off home later in the morning.
The first part of the journey was steady – but not fast. Once we reached the M74 things speeded up considerably. We stopped near Lancaster to stretch our legs and a get a snack (breakfast in my case), before heading off again. Once we were in the vicinity of Manchester things slowed down and so it was till we got past Bristol – a few hours later (we did have a stop for lunch somewhere), and almost twelve hours after leaving home, we reached our holiday cottage on the edge of Exmoor. We drove through lots of weather and none of it very good – and it wasn’t too great at our destination.
We quickly checked out the cottage (a converted barn), were delighted with the wonderful welcome pack, unloaded the car and then set off to the local town in search of fish and chips. The perfect way to start our summer holiday, after such a tiring drive. When we returned we found our resident guinea fowl roosting in the trees by our cottage – and what a noise they made when we appeared and disturbed them.
On an otherwise blipless day, here is the view from our cottage – taken around 9pm. I had forgotten that it gets dark earlier down south!
