Dantalian's Chariot - Madman Running Through The Fields (1967)
Continuing my week of psychedelia, this is now regarded as one of the classic singles of the period, and was one I bought at the time. This band was formed by Zoot Money after he broke up the Big Roll Band and adopted a more contemporary stage act featuring white kaftans and light shows. The new band featured Andy Summers, later to join the Police, on guitar, Pat Donaldson on bass and Colin Allen on drums. Zoot and Andy Summers went on to join Eric Burdon and the New Animals in California.
In demonology Dantalion is apparently a Nephilim, followed by two bat familiars, Amon and Mamon. He is the 71st of Solomon's 72 pillars but was the first demon to be summoned and make a contract with him, holding the title Grand Duke of Hell. Commanding 36 legions he was a candidate to succeed the throne during Lucifer's slumber, representing Astaroth's faction. So now we know...
