Point Sur in View
Cayucos was behind us at approximately at 9:15 a.m. as we drove north today on Highway 1 . . . the Big Sur Coast . . . which is some of the most spectacular coastline in all the world (actually, how can I know, I've not seen the entire world!).
Breakfast at Ragged Point, at the southern most location on this famous coastline, was our first stop. Ragged Point Inn's beautiful glassed-in restaurant gives diners the feeling of eating outdoors without being exposed to the climate. We find it not only a delicious place to eat, but also a very comfortable environment.
Once we had eaten our veggie omelettes, we were headed north again with only a quick pit-stop at Lucia and again at Coast Gallery. In Big Sur proper we stopped at "The Henry Miller Library" because we had never been there before. We looked through the gift shop/bookstore and then again headed north into the city of Monterey. We'll spend several nights here in the Monterey Bay area . . . a place we love.
The 75+ miles we drove up the Big Sur Coast today was lovely as we moved in and out of the fog while driving up in elevation to sunshine and then descending again into a valley through thin veils of misty fog. Seeing the ocean appear was spectacular and at the northern end just before coming into the Carmel (pronounced "car mel") we could see Point Sur and the lighthouse.
Mr. Fun took several terrific photos for me of Point Sur and even captured the beam of illumination in one photo, but I favored this backseat shot that included the rearview mirror with the driver and the Point in sight. I usually ride in the backseat when we have the three pooches with us because it is so much easier. Mitzi rides in the small K9 "bucket seat" in the front and Max and Chloe ride in the backseat with me. We're quite a menagerie as we journey along!
That's it for now from Monterey in northern California.
